Overview

Goaltimate is the flying disc sport that has captured the heart and passion of the best disc players in the world! People of all ages and both genders enjoy this physically and mentally challenging new, non-contact sport. Goaltimate demands patience, hard work, quick thinking, good sportsmanship, teamwork, endurance and speed. It's the fastest, most competitive frisbee sport in the world. A seasoned disc professional invented Goaltimate by combining the best elements of Ultimate with key improvements to make the sport more fun to play, and more fun to watch - live or televised.

Goaltimate differs from Ultimate in that the playing field is smaller, an arched goal is utilized, officials are on hand to resolve disputes quickly, and there are no gaps in the action. See summary of the game below.

Already, Goaltimate surpasses all other frisbee sports in monetary prizes. In June 1999, the Inaugural Goaltimate Tournament was held in Rancho Santa Fe, California with a first place cash prize of $30,000 - an unheard of prize for frisbee sports. The Phase II tournament was recently held in West Palm Beach, Florida, with Phase III taking place in the Summer, 2000 in Vancouver, B.C.! With such big money at stake, Goaltimate is quickly becoming very visible.

Goaltimate challenges hand-eye coordination, perseverance and strategic thinking, making it a great sport for youth! The players self-officiate, but if a dispute occurs, officials quickly step in to interpret the calls.

Goaltimate can be played in a single match, in a league, and in tournaments. Junior high, high school and college students have responded enthusiastically to Goaltimate in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Denmark, Scotland, Venezuela, Mexico and Sweden. Goaltimate will soar in the hands of youth and is now an "official sport" in the upcoming California State Games!

Watch for Goaltimate on espn2 and ESPN International.

Summary of the Game

Goaltimate has six players per team. Four are in play, with two remaining in the Substitution Box.

The game starts from behind the Clear Line when a Defensive player taps the disc held by an Offensive player. This is called a "Check disc". The Offensive player establishes a pivot foot, similar to Basketball, then throws the disc to a teammate within the field of play. Possession is maintained as long as the throws are completed.

The disc is thrown from player to player,  in order to penetrate the Goal, which scores a point.  If the Defense intercepts the disc,  a turnover occurs and if the Defense knocks down the disc, an incomplete pass occurs.

A turnover also occurs when the Offense fails to throw the disc within 5-seconds, known as "Stalling".   Stalling happens after the Defensive player counts aloud to five. This makes the action non-stop and thrilling!

Each goal counts for 1 point, with 2 points awarded for Goals thrown from behind the Clear Line.

After a score, the offense maintains possession and must work the disc back to the Clear Line in order to advance for another score.

Games are played to 5 points and are part of a "Best-of-5" game series.
