The showcase featured the two top Goaltimate teams in the world, the defending champions San Diego Ground Zero team verses their arch rivals the Santa Barbara Condors.

World class Disc Freestylers and Canines started the day's festivities followed by a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem sung by local San Diego sensation and Universal Recording artist, 16-year old Emily Carlstrom.

NFL San Diego Charger stars, John Carney and Darren Bennett, showed up to support our "Sport of the New Millennium" and autograph frisbees. Also on hand were the Charger Cheerleaders who helped in any way they could, including leading masses of excited fans in cheers on the Goaltimate field.

The Condors took the first game to five points of the best-out-of-five series. The Santa Barbara team looked like seasoned pros jumping out to a 4 points to 5 victory. The San Diego team stormed back in game two and answered with a 5 - 2 win.

With the series tied it was time for our first contestant to attempt to win a Xukon XL. Mark Sabastian barely missed the mark, by trying to sink a 35-yard disc shot into an Innova Golf DisCatcher.

For the third game the Ground Zero team showed why they have been the reigning Goaltimate Champions for the Inaugural and the Phase II tournaments. They showed great disc skills, throwing every creative pass in the book at the Condors and winning the third game 5-2. Our second Xukon XL contestant, Nancy Lovely, came out to try and make the 35-yard toss.

Although a valiant effort, Nancy would have made it had the DisCatcher been just a little closer. The Condor team was just as valiant and came on strong in game four, tying the series and forcing a game five with a powerful 5-2 victory of their own!

With the series all knotted up at two games a piece, the final game proved to be a dramatic climax. The game started off fast with Santa Barbara taking the lead. San Diego tied the game 3 points apiece, then pulled away with the team Captain, Mike "Frenchy" Boisvert, sneaking a curving pass into the awaiting hands of Ground Zero teammate Clif "Phantom" Smith for the win!
